In Studio Interview: JP Jones - Web Site

Today's guest, visiting from picturesque Newport RI, was JP Jones.  JP is a creative songwriter whose lyrical streams wander from reminiscence to dream like fantasy with vision, imagination, and dramatic images. Mixing songs with "hooks" with extended free form narratives, JP's recordings are eclectic journeys that follow a clear path.  His musical roots began with Mississippi John Hurt and Robert Johnson, then spread out to include Ralph Vaughan Williams and Leonard Bernstein during his study of Classical Composition in college.  With a rich, resonant voice, husky but warm and amiable, I feel like JP is an old friend telling a story just to me.   Expressive guitar lines are woven through vocal phrasing that emphasizes key lyrics, often drawing out subtle nuances.   JP's latest recording, Ashes, has just been released.  On a crisp New England morning, thirty-two degrees as I headed into the station, JP gave us a thoughtful and reflective start to our day here in MetroWorcester.
