In Studio Interview: The Westerleys - Web Site

Today's guests, visiting from the San Francisco Bay Area, were The Westerleys, a trio made up of Nancy Terzian on vocals, Doug E. Blumer on vocals and guitar, and Rob McCloskey on bass. The Westerleys have been a hot item across the CrossTracks block. Today, we learned that live they are even more exciting. Nancy's pure yearning tones and Doug's understated dynamics blend into a powerful affect. No matter what the subject of the song, The Westerleys inspire joy, are uplifting, and gift a strong desire to dance. As writers, they each have a slightly different approach. Doug listens carefully to conversations and often finds songs from the interchange. Experience frames most of Nancy's songs, though books can provide a phrase that develops a lyrical idea. The vocals and Doug's fluid guitar playing are augmented by Rob's expressive and creative bass lines. There is a fine balance in The Westerleys, between contrasting voices, and between guitar and bass. They enjoy performing and that feeling is passed on to the audience. On an Autumn morning with the leaves are beginning to glow as only in New England, The Westerleys put a bounce in our step and a smile on our face to start our day here in MetroWorcester.
